The developers of Edinburgh’s future St James Quarter have unveiled the UK’s largest advertising banner to celebrate an evolving tale of the Capital over the past 150 years.
Henderson Global investors have commissioned the installation of the banner to help set the scene for the transformation of the site into the new St James Quarter and to demonstrate how it will integrate into the surrounding environment.
The banner (over 1,000 sq m in size) will remain in place throughout the demolition work which is set to begin on site in 2011, and will feature a series of images that reflect the history of Edinburgh, with a focus on the area to become St James Quarter.
The transformation of the 13-acre site in the centre of Edinburgh will be one of the UK's most ambitious city centre development projects and is set to restore the Scottish Capital as a world-class shopping destination. It will create a vibrant new city neighbourhood, with a sweeping continental-style retail 'galleria' at its heart.
Myles White, Fund Manager of HGI's UK Shopping Centre Fund said: “Edinburgh has a long and respected history as a retail destination, which has been apparent in the extensive research and consultation undertaken in the planning process. We have commissioned these images to reflect this heritage, and to show our commitment to respecting this site through our future development plans. We want to engage both with residents and visitors to the city to give them an insight into what the future of the St James Quarter holds and demonstrate our vision to create a world class retail hub in the capital to rival other global shopping destinations''.
