Here is a fascinating glimpse into Edinburgh’s future the publication of the first of a series of detailed artist’s impressions portraying how the Capital’s proposed St James Quarter might look in 2015..
The images have been commissioned by Henderson Global Investors (HGI) following the submission of a major planning application in September 2008. Under the plans, the Capital's existing 1970s St James Shopping Centre and adjacent New St Andrew's House office block will be demolished and replaced by a vibrant new city neighbourhood, with a sweeping continental-style retail 'galleria' at its heart.
The city centre site, spanning a total area of around 13 acres, will be transformed as part of the new St James Quarter, bringing together international class retailers with the world's top hotels, restaurants and leisure facilities - as well as up to 250 new homes.
The new images have been created by one of the UK’s leading technical illustrators, Peter Hutton, and give tantalising snapshots of how the development ofthe St James Quarter could look when complete, demonstrating a high quality of design and materials that will be proposed for the development.
